Validating contacts before sending: Email Checker explained
A clean, verified contact list is essential for high deliverability. Sending to invalid or risky addresses increases bounces, damages your domain reputation, and can land your emails in spam. To help prevent this, Sendigram provides the built-in Email Checker.
1. What Is the Email Checker?
- The Email Checker is a validation tool that scans your contact lists.
- It identifies invalid, misspelled, inactive, or disposable addresses.
- It reduces bounce rates and protects your sender reputation.
2. When to Use It
- Before sending a new campaign – check the list to avoid sending to bad addresses.
- After importing contacts – validate new uploads before adding them to live campaigns.
- Periodically – run checks on older lists to keep them fresh.
3. How to Validate Contacts with Email Checker
- Go to Contacts → Lists.
- Select the list you want to check.
- Click Validate with Email Checker.
- The tool will analyze each email and categorize them as:
- ✅ Valid – safe to send.
- ⚠️ Risky – may bounce or be inactive.
- ❌ Invalid – should be removed.
- Review the results and decide whether to keep, suppress, or delete risky/invalid contacts.
4. Benefits of Using the Email Checker
- Improves deliverability – fewer bounces mean more inbox placement.
- Protects your domain reputation – ISPs trust verified senders.
- Saves money – don't waste email quota on undeliverable addresses.
- Boosts engagement – clean lists mean more active, real subscribers.
5. Best Practices
- Always validate imported contacts before their first campaign.
- Regularly validate older lists (every 3–6 months).
- Suppress or delete invalid addresses immediately.
- Use risky addresses cautiously — consider segmenting them separately.
6. Compliance Note
- Validating contacts does not override opt-in requirements.
- Always collect emails with consent to remain GDPR and CAN-SPAM compliant.
Tip: Think of Email Checker as your spam filter shield — it keeps your lists clean and helps every campaign perform better.
